“Nine Lives and Good Karma”, Episode 9
Bali, Indonesia, 2012,
You know the old saying that “every cat has 9 lives”, right? Well multiple that – times 2 – for the 18 lives that any two people have collectively between them – and you get the premise of this tale — where my wife, Surya, and I, have returned to the magical island of Bali, where we met in 2000 – only to be confronted with two — life threatening adventures, or as I say in the podcast’s weekly Intro: two… mind-boggling… “mis-adventures”. This week’s travelogue, “Nine Lives Times 2, and Good Karma”, is all about bad luck, good luck, and the powerful instinct to survive… no matter where you are… or what happens!
“Behind the Scenes with JMP”, Episode 8
My guest this week is Joanthan Munoz-Proulx, otherwise known as “JMP”, my former student and now independent theater artist, who first gave me the idea of doing a travel podcast. After me seeing me do a reading of my travel pieces, having previously read them on my blog, he said to me:
“Trules, your stories are SO MUCH BETTER when we hear your voice!

Love and the Devil’s Nose – Episode 5
Aluasi, Ecuador, 2003. Imarried for the first time at age 55. Also in 2003. I married an Indonesian girl I met in Bali who was 31 years youngwer than I was and who spoke almost no English. Go figure, huh?
But in the summer of 2003, a few months after we tied the knot in LA, we took our first extended trip together… to Machu Picchu in Peru, and up Los Avenidas de los Vocanoes, along the mountainous spine of Central Ecuador. For 2 months, we traveled in all-night buses with “los indeignos”, the local natives wrapped in colorful sarapes, wearing gray bolwer hats. I loved it. My wife hated it. And this trip… was as much about… our new marriage… as it was about South American culture and adventure.
Enjoy and Happy Trails………..
