But it's more than just that. It's also about his life beginning in New York and how he created a life for himself, his wife and now their adopted son in the Echo Park section of Los Angeles. \n\nWhat's especially enjoyable about his accounts of his life is not just what's going on in the present but also the historical knowledge he imparts with a sense of humor. \n\nHe probably remembers Gene Shepard from many many years ago on WOR A.M. Radio in New York City and I as a young child back then would listen to him on the equivalent of podcasts back then. Younger people may recall the movie \"A Christmas Story\" and the famous saying about not getting a Bebe gun because he will shoot his eye out. Exactly why I moved into the seedy but glorious, Hotel Woodward on 55<sup>th<\/sup> and Broadway in mid town Manhattan, just a few blocks above the Broadway theater district, and just a few doors from the Carnegie Deli, which in my humble opinion, sold the best corned beef in all of New Yawk.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3751\" src=\"https:\/\/erictrules.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/corned-beef-300x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/erictrules.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/corned-beef-300x233.jpg 300w, https:\/\/erictrules.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/corned-beef.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>New York City &#8212; &#8220;back in the day&#8221; &#8212; when <strong>Studio 54<\/strong> was all the rage and the new <strong>TKTS<\/strong> half-price tickets booth on 47th Street and Broadway was still bright-eyed and bushy tailed. When my\u00a0rent at the infamous and sometimes dangerous, Hotel Woodward was $55 a week, and I had to figure out a way to pay it.
